Next Hate Crime Survey

The Offences (Aggravated by Prejudice) (Scotland) Bill was passed by Parliament in June 2009. This Bill introduces new legislation covering offences aggravated by prejudice in relation to disability, sexual orientation and transgender identity ('hate crime' aggravations) as well as the existing aggravations in relation to a person's race or religion and belief.

The Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service will be carrying out a full review of the best way to monitor compliance with prosecution policy and the Lord Advocate's Guidelines on all hate crimes. Whilst this work is going on, we will not be carrying out our usual racist crime survey but we are committed to publishing evidence of our monitoring work when the review has been completed.
