Another Successful Civil Recovery Case Concludes

Scottish Ministers have recovered assets worth £60,000 in a case that recently concluded at the Court of Session. The assets consist of funds held in a bank account obtained through the unlawful conduct of Stephen Devine, care of HM Prison, Kilmarnock.

The Lord Advocate has an appeal against the sentence imposed on John Tunnicliffe, who pled guilty at Edinburgh High Court to lewd and libidinous practices and the rape of a girl aged 14.

Annual Report on Treasure Trove in Scotland Published

The Queen’s and Lord Treasurer’s Remembrancer today publishes his second annual Report, which has been presented to the Scottish Parliament. The Report covers the period 1 April 2006 – 31 March 2007. It comments on Treasure Trove matters dealt with by the Queen’s and Lord Treasurer’s Remembrancer (QLTR) and by the Scottish Archaeological Finds Allocation Panel (SAFAP).

ICL Factory Inquiry Announcement

The Lord Advocate, Elish Angiolini QC and the Secretary of State for Work and pensions, Peter Hain MP, today announced their agreement that there should be a public inquiry into the tragic plastics factory explosion, which occurred in Glasgow on 11 May 2004. The full terms of reference and further details will be finalised in the coming weeks

The Lord Advocate has today lodged an appeal against the sentence of Andrew James Goldie recently sentenced to 12 months imprisonment at Dumfries Sheriff Court for an assault commited with a Stanley knife

HMA v ICL Plastics Ltd and ICL Tech Ltd

The case against ICL Plastics Ltd and ICL Tech Ltd has now concluded at the High Court in Glasgow. Lord Brodie has fined each company £200,000. Catherine Dyer, the Area Procurator for Glasgow, has issued a statement to the media.

HMA v ICL Plastics Ltd and ICL Tech

ICL Plastics and ICL Tech have both pled guilty to contraventions of the Health and Safety Act in relation to the Maryhill factory explosion. The Area PF for Glasgow has issued a statement. The case has been adjourned until 27 August, 2007.
