HMA v ICL Plastics Ltd and ICL Tech Ltd

Media Statement

Following the recording of guilty pleas by ICL Plastics Ltd and ICL Tech Ltd at the High Court in Glasgow today, Catherine Dyer, Area Procurator Fiscal for Glasgow, said:

"Today, both companies have pled guilty to all charges brought by the Crown. Survivors and the families of victims are now spared the additional trauma and uncertainty of a trial. This result is a significant testament to the skill, professionalism and expertise of investigators and prosecutors in gathering the evidence, and preparing the case for court.

"Nine people lost their lives as a result of the explosion in Maryhill on 11 May 2004. Many more will be forever affected. My thoughts, and the thoughts of my staff, remain with the victims, the survivors, and their families."
