LORD ADVOCATE VISITS NEWLY REFURBISHED ABERDEEN PROCURATOR FISCAL'S OFFICE

The Lord Advocate, the Right Honourable Elish Angiolini QC, today visited and opened the newly refurbished Procurator Fiscal's Office in Aberdeen.

The Lord Advocate was joined at the opening by the Area Procurator Fiscal for Aberdeen Anne Currie and District Procurator Fiscal Stephen McGowan.

The office, in Guild Street, underwent months of refurbishment work between October 2009 and May this year.

The Aberdeen office now has a new customer reception, improved interview rooms for witnesses, and better storage facilities and office layout for staff.

The Lord Advocate said:

"I am delighted to be able to visit and open the newly refurbished Procurator Fiscal's office here in Aberdeen.

"Area Procurator Fiscal Anne Currie and her team now have a modern working environment in the heart of the city.

"The team here in Aberdeen deal with some of the most complex and sensitive cases in Scotland, and I am extremely proud of the results they achieve.

"The north east of Scotland is unlike any other part of the country and this brings unique challenges for law enforcement agencies and prosecutors.

"Our priority is to ensure the people of Aberdeen and Grampian enjoy the benefits of a safe community which is low in crime.

"Together with Grampian Police and law enforcement agencies, we will continue to work towards this aim."

Area Procurator Fiscal Anne Currie said:

"The staff in Aberdeen provide an excellent service to the local community and all work extremely hard to ensure that the investigation and prosecution of crime is as effective and efficient as possible.

"We are delighted with our new office, and are already enjoying the benefits of the improvements.

"These include better facilities for victims and witnesses, and an enhanced working environment for staff."
