Background and Statistics

Setting up VIA

VIA was set up in recognition of a perceived gap in meeting the information needs of victims and witnesses. VIA is part of the COPFS modernisation programme and its continuing efforts to become more sensitive and responsive to the needs of victims and witnesses.

After pilot projects in Aberdeen and Hamilton in 2000 and 2001, VIA officially launched as a COPFS service in June 2002. The roll-out of service to cover all of Scotland was completed in December 2004.
