Victim Information and Advice (VIA)
Victim Information and Advice (VIA) is part of the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS), and offers a service to certain victims, witnesses and also, in cases of sudden, unexpected or crime-related deaths, the next of kin.
The COPFS is responsible for investigating and prosecuting crime in Scotland. However, VIA staff are not prosecutors. We understand the particular concerns and needs of people affected by crime and provide a dedicated service that helps victims, witnesses and bereaved next of kin through the criminal justice process by keeping them informed of key events and offering explanations where appropriate. By doing this we hope to increase understanding of the justice system as it applies to particular cases.
