Freedom of Information: Drink Driving Offences

Thank you for your request dated 23 June 2014 under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 (FOISA) for the following information:

1a)   How many drink driving offences have been reported to the Procurator Fiscal in Scotland over the last four years?

1b)   How many drink driving offences have been prosecuted by the Procurator Fiscal in Scotland over the last four years?

1c)   Can this information be broken down by individual Procurator Fiscal offices.

2a)   How many cases of driving while impaired due to drugs have been reported to the Procurator Fiscal in Scotland over the last four years?

2b)   How many cases of driving while impaired due to drugs have been prosecuted by the Procurator Fiscal in Scotland over the last four years? 

2c)   Can this information be broken down by individual Procurator Fiscal offices.

3a)   How many cases of careless and/or dangerous driving have been reported to the Procurator Fiscal in Scotland over the last four years?

3b)   How many cases of careless and/or dangerous driving have been prosecuted by the Procurator Fiscal in Scotland over the last four years? 

3c)   Can this information be broken down by individual Procurator Fiscal offices.

COPFS uses a live operational case management system, specifically designed to receive criminal and death reports from the police and other specialist reporting agencies and to manage the cases for investigation and prosecution purposes. The information held on the system is structured for these operational needs, rather than for statistical reporting or research purposes. Due to the way the data is structured on our system, where we are asked to provide statistical information, we provide this by number of charges rather than number of reports. More than one charge may relate to the same individual. The information provided is based on the first substantive marking which was applied to any particular charge. It would not be possible to carry out a more detailed analysis of the information requested within the cost limits set out within FOISA.
