Freedom of information: Death of footballer in 1985

Thank you for your e-mail dated 27 August in which you requested, under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002, a sudden death report, or any other pertinent case information about the death of the former Hibernian and Scotland footballer, Erich Schaedler on 28 December 1985.
I have now made inquiry with both the case records office in Crown Office and with the local Procurator Fiscal's Office.
This death was reported to Crown Office on 27 March 1986 by the Procurator Fiscal at Peebles. The cause of death was noted as Shot Gun Wound to Head - Suicide. Crown Counsel instructed No Proceedings on 31 March 1986.
Our current records retention policy only requires us to retain records of this type for a period of 5 years and I can confirm that these records have now been destroyed in line with that policy. I attach a link to our records management manual for your information.
