A man who tried to avoid a robbery trial by fleeing to Spain has been jailed for 8 years.
26 year old Gareth Edwards was caught on CCTV during the raid on the pawnbrokers store in central Edinburgh in January 2014.
He fled to Spain but was traced in March 2017 and was subsequently arrested and extradited back to Scotland.
The High Court in Edinburgh was shown Edwards taking jewellery and watches to the value of more than £70,000.
A second man, Craig Parkes, was jailed last year for his part in the incident.
Speaking following the sentencing, Nicky Patrick, Procurator Fiscal for Homicide and Major Crime, said:
“Gareth Edwards fled abroad in a deliberate attempt to avoid the consequences of his actions.
“We were able to work closely with criminal justice partners in Spain and, once the accused had been traced, he was quickly returned to Scotland to be tried.
“This sends a clear message that we will not allow perpetrators of crimes to escape from the justice system in Scotland and we will do everything we can to ensure they are brought before the courts.”
