Support for Down’s Syndrome Scotland’s Take a Step Forward Campaign

The Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS) is supporting Down’s Syndrome Scotland’s Take a Step Forward Campaign as part of activities being organised for Down’s Syndrome Awareness Week (15-22 March 2020).

The Take a Step Forward campaign celebrates the achievements of people with Down’s Syndrome while also tackling the barriers that can make life difficult for people who just happen to have an extra chromosome.

The Lothian and Borders Sheriffdom Equality Network will raise awareness by taking part in a Lots of Socks fund raising event and have plans for a future awareness-raising event for COPFS employees. Sheriffdom Equality Networks support internal and external engagement and awareness of equality issues.

COPFS will continue to work with Down’s Syndrome Scotland to understand the needs of people with Down’s Syndrome in relation to Scotland’s criminal justice system. This continues our important work with equality groups to create a service that is free from discrimination and bias for service users and employees, as outlined in our Equality Outcomes Report.
