Joseph Greer killed Samantha Lee at his home in the city following a prolonged and violent assault.
The 40-year-old pleaded guilty at the High Court in Glasgow after being prosecuted by the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS).
The court heard that Greer had a history of violence and had previously seriously assaulted Ms Lee, a devoted mother of three, on 14 October 2025.
Ms Lee was last heard from on 1 January 2026 before her body was found in her partner's kitchen on 4 January.
Evidence showed that Greer, who is originally from Coventry, England, repeatedly struck her on the head and body with a claw hammer, causing fatal injuries.
After an acquaintance of the couple raised the alarm with police, Greer left the property before later being traced and arrested by officers.
A post-mortem examination confirmed that Ms Lee died from blunt force head injuries consistent with a prolonged attack.
The couple had been together for around four years.
On 7 August 2026, at the High Court in Dundee, Greer was ordered to serve a minimum of 22 years in custody before he can be considered for release by the Parole Board.

"Samantha was a much-loved mother, sister, auntie and nanny. Her family have lost someone who meant so much to them, and they have been deprived of years of precious memories together.
"Samantha's death is a stark reminder of the devastating impact violence against women and girls can have.
"Scotland's prosecutors will continue to use every legal tool available to hold those responsible for domestic abuse to account."
